Summer School & Hauner Research Days: Scientific Exchange near Lake Starnberg
"Genetics and Immunity - lessons from children with rare diseases of the immune system": From July 14 to 16, 2016 international scientists gathered in Bernried/Bavaria in order to discuss the latest findings in the field of genetic disorders of the immune system.
Ahead of the conference, the biannual meeting of the Helmsley Consortium on very early onset inflammatory bowel diseases (VEO-IBD) was held. Among the conference participants there were members of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) funded Network "Research for Rare Diseases and Personalized Medicine" from Thailand, Israel, Canada, the USA, Austria, Turkey and Iran. On the occasion of their annual Summer School they presented their research projects and deepened their international collaboration. Such cooperation across national borders is of paramount importance – especially in the field of rare diseases where the need for individualized therapies is vital. The Care-for-Rare Foundation enabled young scientists from Isfahan, Bangkok, Kayseri, Vienna, Tel Aviv and Boston to attend the conference by awarding travel grants.
The scientific symposium also provided the framework for the "Hauner Research Days". Physicians and scientists from the Hauner Children's Hospital/Munich presented (and were shown) paths into clinical research. In a "speed dating" round the Research Division informed young colleagues about their projects and research opportunities. The conference was organized by the Hauner Children's Hospital and the Care-for-Rare Foundation.
