Philanthropy meets Science – the Hector Foundation II awards Professor Christoph Klein with science award
Pro.movere in action - philanthropy meets science: Professor Christoph Klein, co-founder of the Care-for-Rare Foundation has been awarded with the prestigious Hector Science Award 2013 in recognition of his cutting-edge research on rare diseases. The prestigious award is endowed with 150.000€ - and will be partly used to support the mission of the Care-for-Rare Foundation.
With their foundation, Josephine and Hans-Werner Hector provide an excellent example of social responsibility.

Pro.movere – Presentation of the Bavarian Engagement Award and the Care-for-Rare Science Award
The Care-for-Rare Foundation and the Werner Reichenberger Foundation awarded the Bavarian Engagement Award and the Care-for-Rare Science Award for the first time on 6th November 2013. The former federal president Horst Köhler and his wife Eva Luise Köhler were honoured for their outstanding commitment to, and work for, children suffering from rare diseases. Dr. Tina Wenz from the Institute of Genetics, University of Cologne, was awarded the Care-for-Rare Science Award for her work into treatments for diseases of the “power stations” of cells.

Discovery of a new Bone Marrow Disease
A new kind of bone marrow disease, whose trigger is a genetic mutation on the VPS45 gene (vacuolar protein sorting 45) was discovered due to the international collaboration of research scientists from Israel, the USA and Germany, and with the the support of the Care-for-Rare Foundation. The results will be published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
